MSL 6000 with one Ultrium 460 drive: intermittent unknown media
We are facing this issue with one of our customers: When inserting multiple cartridges and launching inventroy, some tapes are recognized and some others not. If repeating inventory on the same cartridges, another set is recognized and another set is not (intermittent). The library (330731-B22) is on the latest firmware (5.20) and the drive fmw is (F6AW). For info, the drive has been replaced recently (one month ago) due to a cut-off of the tape taker/loder. Before replacing the drive we didn't saw that problem. Testing a new set of cartridges: same issue. When checking the cartridges map on the library, unknown medias are shown as black lines without labels. For info also, we are not using barcode labels (manual labels for local identification).

Re: MSL 6000 with one Ultrium 460 drive: intermittent unknown media
How are you importing the media??? If you are not using the mailslot or bulk loading the magazine where the library will reinventory the magazine that could be the problem. If you are doing the above, then I suspect you have a flaky Library controller.

Re: MSL 6000 with one Ultrium 460 drive: intermittent unknown media
you wrote you are not using barcode
this mean that during the inventory, each cartridge is loaded in the drive, and the header should be read in order to be recognized. This may take time, and if the drive (you just replaced) have some problem in reading, this may be the cause of the unrecognized tape.
I would suggest to run a few cleaning cycle first and then check again
Also It would be good to use barcode
last think would be to run the L&TT tool, and run the various tests on that Drive. eventuly, replace it.

Re: MSL 6000 with one Ultrium 460 drive: intermittent unknown media
I did replace the drive by a new one with a previous firmware revision (??) and it works normally now. Thank you.
