MSL6000 SCSI problem

I am using an MSL6000 with 4 320 drives. All the sudden the drive in bay 1 will not initialise at boot, all others are ok. At boot it gets stuck on what ever drive is in bay 1 until it times out and continues to boot.

I checked cabling, terminators, controller, changed drive in bay one, changed the SCSI ID.

The Library it self does not come up with any errors, from the library side everything looks OK, But the Adaptec controller just will not pickup any drive that is in bay 1. The Adaptec controller get to drive bay 1, displays the SCSI ID and then just sits there until it times-out

I am going to change the backplane but before I do, I was hoping someone could help with some advise. Not a 100% on the a backplane change because I'm not getting any errors from the library.

Can any assist ???

Re: MSL6000 SCSI problem

Are there hot plug or non hot plug drives?

Hope this helps!

Re: MSL6000 SCSI problem

If I understand right, you did already test with another drive. Hot-plug drives are connected to 2 internal boards, maybe at least one of them has a problem.

Hope this helps!

Re: MSL6000 SCSI problem

Yeah I also think it might be the internal board that the drive connects to but I find it strange that the library did not come up with an error.

Re: MSL6000 SCSI problem

I have seen several time problems with that hot plug card seated under the drives where you attach the drive. It happens that if you force over the connector, some solder can broke and you have like a issue on the scsi bus, and no communication between the drive seated on top of it and the host.
in that case the hotplug card should be replaced

Re: MSL6000 SCSI problem

Thank you for your advise but it turned out to be the backplane.
