MSL6000 compatibility with MSL4048 and MSL2024

Hello guys
Suppose that I'm using a MSL4048 with an Ultrium960 tape drive.
I'm using Dataprotector.
After sometimes I decide to upgrade my backup technology and I provide a MSL6030.
With MSL 6030 can I restore the backups taken by MSL4048 ?
suppose that both are using Ultrium960 tape drive.
Are they compaible together ?

Hi,

I understand your question as

Is a Ultrium960 compatible to another Ultrium960?

Why not?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSL6000 compatibility with MSL4048 and MSL2024

Hi,

As a single tape drive Ultrium960 everything is clear.

But I am just confused when this tape drive is a part of MSL6030 or MSL4048.

Actually I do not know what are the differences of backup method in MSL6030 and MSL4048.

Suppose that I have taken a backup with dataprotector on MSL4048.
This backup has taken 2TB space on 5*400GB tape.
Is it possible to revocer this backup with a MSL6030 ?

The Drive write to the tape, as long as you use the LTO3 drive, these should be able to read your data (obvioulsy if you use the same backup application with the same settings. LTO mean Linear Tape Open, this should in theory assure that a tape written in a IBM LTO is readable in a HP LTO for example.
In your case you use two LTO part of HP library, so you are ok.

The library itself is only the container of the cartridge and the robot. this mean that the model of robot do not influence at all the way the data are written to the tape

Yes - backup tapes written to an Ultrium 960 in an MSL4048 can be recovered using an Ultrium 960 in an MSL 6030 as long as you are using the same application.
