MSL6030 hardware or software compression
Backup to MSL6030 - hardware compression is working option?
Or prefer software compression in Veritas?
Backup consist of files and databases.

Re: MSL6030 hardware or software compression
HW compression is the preffered option.
I only recommend SW compression for backup over slow LANs because SW compression takes lots of CPU cycles!
On slow LANs it can improve troughput.
Cheers

Re: MSL6030 hardware or software compression
Hardware compression is enabled by default on all tape drives but somethimes backup software disable that.
Is not recomended to use hadware and software compression enabled at the same time.
Hardware compression is faster than software compression and is the prefered option.
Veritas has some issues regarding hardware compression.
I recomend to do some research on Veritas web site regarding this option.

Re: MSL6030 hardware or software compression
Veritas BackupExec disables drive compression when backups are not in progress (apparently due to some requirement for old tape technologies)
