MSL6030 with LTO-2 and LTO-4 and failed backup?
We have upgraded an MSL6000 with one LTO-2 drive as follow:
- Adding e1200-320 4GB controller
- Adding LTO-4 (1840) drive and connecting to the second port (port-1) on the e1200-320 then terminating on the drive.
Initially the MSL was connected to the SAN using an old e1200 controller and everything was OK with Backup Exec 11d.
A FW upgrade for the library, e1200, LTO-4 has been performed (LTO-2 still as it was before)
Now, LTO-2 drive is working properly but the LTO-4 starts the backup (around 500MB) then fails.
Any idea please!!!

the LTO4 drive cannot write to a LTO2 media, its read only situation here.

Re: MSL6030 with LTO-2 and LTO-4 and failed backup?
You'll need to verify the drive is faulty using the drive assessment test in LTT if you're looking to replace the drive.
You can also pull a full support ticket (will get the library and both the drives) and post here and we can take a look see what condition it's all in. Should also be able to see what caused the backup to fail from the drive logs.
You will need to match the media - or at least use LTO 3 in your LTO 4 drive - as mentioned.
What is the failure message? The applications tend to blame the drive whatever goes wrong which is not very helpful.

It's more interesting when it's gone wrong
