MSL6060 in Fibre SAN environment with HP-UX 11i
We have just purchased a new tape library with the following specification:
MSL6060 library
4 x Ultrium 460 drives
2 x e1200 fibre channel cards
Each fibre card has 2 drives connected to it.
Both fibre cards are then connected to our SAN brocade switch.
We wish to set up our host systems (HP-UX 11i) so that each of them can use all of the drives.
One system will also control the library robotics.
Our backup software is Omniback 4.1.
How do we go about setting up a backup to utilise all four drives in one backup specification? Does the fact that the drives are split between two fibre cards make a difference?
Does anyone else know of a better way of using this library?
Thanks for any help.
Mark

Re: MSL6060 in Fibre SAN environment with HP-UX 11i
Hi,
I can't see anything wrong with your library configuration.
How many hosts do you want to backup via SAN ?
You must configure logical devices (in OmniBack) for each host for every drive
(if 4 hosts and four drives = 4*4=16 logical devices).
Don't forget to set the lock-name for every logical device.
Also, make sure that the drive index on all hosts is the same for every physical drive.
To use all drives in a backup job, use load balancing and set (for example) min. 2 drives, max. 4 drives.
