MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

I Have two MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, the four drives in the two MSL6060s, both NSRs and the Robot in the Master are visible to both the LT&T and Data Protector on the backup server, but when a job is started in Data Protector it loads a tape into a Drive, and then... nothing, it is not transferring ANY data.
It has read the barcode on the tape and everything, but 0kb gets written, even waiting for half an hour.
When the slave library is configured as stand alone, and the Robotics is presented to the backup server again, then the stand alone MSL can do backups with Data Protector just fine.

Can anybody help me with narrowing down this issue, please?

Sincerely
Mikael.

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

I have created the following device map, is that right?
Master:
0: CHGR, 1: TAPE, 2: TAPE, 3: CTRLR
Slave:
0: TAPE, 1: TAPE, 2: CTRLR

The CHGR on the slave is down, should it be that?
Everything else is UP.

Firmware on MSL6060 has been updated to: 5.20
Firmware on Drives has been updated to: G54W

The one NSR is a 1200e 160, the other one is a 1200e 320, this is not a problem right?

I am still having the same problem...

The slave library robotics/controller should not be connected to your backup application (i.e. no SCSI attachment). The Master library should control the slave over an IP connection (via the WAN router).

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

This seems to be a configuration problem,
The master and slave library are connected,
when the master reboots the slave reboots with it, and when the master gets firmware updated, the slave gets firmware updated.
There is link on the MSL router (hub) on both the master and slave ports and on the "uplink".
The master library has the correct IP address and can be contacted on it, and the NSR 1200e's both have the correct IP adresses, and can be contacted.
The tape drives show up in L&TT under the master MSL.
NSR, Drives and MSL all have newest firmware.

But:
in L&TT the master only sees its own 60 slots, and the elevator connecting the two does'nt seem to work.

Have you removed the SCSI cable from the slave library controller ??

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

Since all four drives now are in the Master library, and the only thing left in the Slave is the library controller card:
- Yes.

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

OK - so the only cable going into the slave controller should be the UTP to the second port on WAN/router. By the way - the slave controller SCSI ports should have SCSI terminators fitted.

Do you "see" the slave libraries when you check the library status from the frontpanel - for instance do you see 4 mailslots/8 magazines/116 slots ?? - the slave library should appear as selection when you go to the 'edit' options and enable/disable mailslots or run the cartridge cycle diagnostics in the "maintenance" section.

- if that checks out OK - can you use the front panel to move a cartridge from the slave library to a drive in the Master ??

One word of warning - don't connect or disconnect the PTM motor cable to the Master while the library is powered-up. This is known to damage the tranceiver circuitry that controls the motor in the PTM.

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

One cable only, utp, yes.
Slave controller without termination though, will check.
I do not see the slave library, or the mailslots from the frontpanel on the master, the master says it├В┬┤s master and the slave says it├В┬┤s slave.
When rebooting the master the slave reboots too.
Since the elevator is out of order, the mechanics to move tapes from slave to master and back is not working, we're looking in to that right now.
But is that related to the fact that the master only sees it's own slots?

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

The hardware isn't configured correctly.

As the only communication is through the WAN/router, it sounds like that may be the area to start looking.

When its configured correctly, you should see all the slots/mailslots etc from the Master's front panel - you should also "see" the slave. I wouldn't bother troubleshooting the elevator until you have the correct view from the Master front panel.

Re: MSL6060s in Master/Slave config, Data Protector not transferring data.

Any idea what?
The only setup option that needs to be changed is master/slave or stand alone.

The master/slave can communicate via the MSL HUB since the firmware upgrade on the master automatically flowed to the slave, and when rebooting the master the slave reboots with it.
