New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

Hello,
Need help installing a new Sony SDX450V into a new ML350 w\onboard Ultra lsi SCSI running Windows 2003 standard.
Tape device errored in a Backup Exec backup test.
Is this a SCSI issue?
The sony tape is a SCSI Ultra Wide single ended or LVD.

Hi,
is the drive detected in Device manager, do you use the SCSI cable that cames with the ML350?

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

The server did not detect the unit in boot up sequence. Am using the cable that came with the unit and plugging into the onboard SCSI port. The server came with (PCI) SCSI card for drives but no cables for the 2 scsi ports onboard. Am told that this server will not support a Sony tape unit unless we buy a $300 Adaptec PCI SCSI card making the two onboard SCSI port a waste of space and time...
Am ordering a card, but would appreciate amnyone else that ran into this combo of a new ML350, Windos 2003 Server standard and a Sony SCSI tape unit

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

is it an ML350G4 server? Sounds similar to an issue with ML530/570, were you couldn├В┬┤t use the cable delivered with the server ( use 356553-001 instead of 157855-001 ). If the Termination Power jumper is set, please remove it. You checked the drive on both int. SCSI ports?

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

Hello,
That is correct, in that we had to remove the terminator. We got the drive to run, but then it failed, and Windows could no longer recognize the drive.

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

That is correct in that we had to remove the terminator.

After this, it ran the drive, but errored out on the first test back up, and Windows said it could not recognize the drive unit.

We did install the SOny tape tool and Sony's updated bios driver.

A tech person here called Hp and was told that we need to install a PCI SCSI card otherthan the 2 slots built into the motherboard as HP's port are not compatable.... ?
This makes me wonder and ask why HP put two SCSI ports on the main board if they only work with certain unknown devices.

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

The drive worked without termination for a short time? You used the terminated cable?

Sounds they have a new marketing strategy...

Re: New Server intall Sony Tape Unit

My apologies for the confusion, the unit did not work with the terminator, but did (for a short time) without it.
It appeared to have worked (without the terminator), but then failed upon running the Veritas Backup Exec software.
