New device name with different switch port

Have fibre tape library connected to switch port and HP/UX sees the tape devices fine. Switch is WWPN (soft) zoned. When moving tape library to a different port on switch, HP/UX sets up a different set of device special files so DP no longer works. Is it possible to tell HP/UX to ignore the pathing information it finds about the actual switch port?

Re: New device name with different switch port

The hardware path to the library changes if you switch the port on the SAN switch, so it id normal that DP can't use the devices any more.

DP 5.5 has a new feature that determines the serial number of the device. If the hardware path changes, DP will get the serial number from the device and update then the harware path to the devuce with the same serial number. This is the only solution for your question.

Re: New device name with different switch port

In that case would DP have to be reconfigured to use the new device names based on serialization? (It wouldn't automatically find and use the new ones, would it?)
Thanks a lot. Oh, and most operating systems don't keep track of path information. Do you know if AIX is similar to HP/UX in this regards?

Re: New device name with different switch port

DP 5.5 will update the device configuration automatically with the new detected hardware path. It works fine.

Normally once a device is connected to a certain SAN switch port, you just leave it there.

I don't work that often on AIX, mostly it is HPUX. Both are Unices, only the specific OS commands are different.

Re: New device name with different switch port

Yes, AIX is affected by changes to the N_Port ID as well.
