No compression SDLT220

Hi to all experts,

I need some advice.

I'm trying to backup my 136GB database (offline) using one single media (SDLT1) but it keeps asking me to insert 2nd media to continue. Though it's only 109 gb had only been backup. I thought 136 can stll be consider (either 120+)coz i'm still not yet in the place where compression is working? If the the said tape drive can only backup 120+ that will be okay, but 109GB is not acceptable.

Ant idea? please help..
Thanks..

My specs:

HPUX11i
HPSDLT220

SAP CONFIGURATION:
TAPE SIZE = 100000.000 MB BACKUP MODE=FULL / OFFLINE COMPRESS=HARDWARE
ERROR: 2nd tape is needed / IO error

Re: No compression SDLT220

Hi,
It may not be always possible to achieve 220GB! Depends on data type you may get around 110GB to 220GB in SDLT1.
Sometimes beyond 220GB also possible.

Read below link for more information.

May be the media/drive is poor.

Re: No compression SDLT220

Hi,

as I understand, you don't use any compression. In that case you can backup only 110GB.

Re: No compression SDLT220

What stape patch level are you at? If not at a minimum level where SDLT 220 support was added, compression might not be getting enabled. Additionally, is the drive reporting as a COMPAQ or HP SDLT 220 drive?

Whether or not hardware compression is enabled should be easy enough to test. Download the performance assessment tool (PAT) and run that. If you get 11MB/s, that's native, no compression. If using 2:1 compressible data and you get 22MB/s, then you are getting hardware compression with that device file.
