Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

OLD COMPAQ DAT DRIVE...

Dear all,

I am shortly going to purchace a new server for my smb (possibly a ML350 G4p)

I have been given an old (yet unused) 20\40 gb internal SCUSI DAT tape drive.
Ideally id like to mount it below the cd rom,
but to do this ill need some sort of adaptor cage in order to bring the tape drive to the nessasary width, and i dont know the part no (if one even exists for this.)

Alternatavly i could mount it in one of the hot plug drive bays but this would mean mounting it vertically, and i dont know if this is an ok thing to do and also if it would affect the SCUSI bus speed (ie dragging it down to the speed of the tape drive.)

Any advice greatly received.
Yours

Re: OLD COMPAQ DAT DRIVE...

Hi Paul:
From what I gather, you are correct in saying that the SCSI bus speed would drop down to the slowest SCSI device.
Daisychaining the two devices is never recommended.
I will look for some whitepapers regarding this and will try to send the links ASAP.
Thanks,
