Poor compression tape cartridges HP LTO2 (C7972A)

Hello,

I'm working with HP LTO2 tape drive. When I use the Fujifilm cartridges LTO2 200/400, i can save all my data. But when I put in tape HP cartridge LTO2 200/400 (C7972A), my software (ARCServe) say me to insert another cartridge because there is no more space available. However I only use 300 MB (compression 1.53).

Can we suppose that Fujifilm cartridge has a better compression than HP cartridge ?

Somebody know what's happening ?

I have already formated the cartridges and already changed the compression statut. I do the tests with several fujifilm and hp tapes cartridges with the same result.

Regards

Compression is based on the data, not the media (except for the size).

Unless the media is failing and it has to be rewritten several times or has to slow down.

Re: Poor compression tape cartridges HP LTO2 (C7972A)

All HP cartridges that I tried are completely new.
Therefore I don't know what I should look for.
The size of the backed up data is exactly the same when I try with HP or Fuji.

Thank you for your help.

Your backup is really only 300MB and doesn't fit on a single tape???

However, you should do a compression test using LTT: http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
