Problem with slow Ultrium 2
I have a customer who have a IBM Netfinity 7100 as an Exchange server. We are running windows 2000 and Exchange server 2000.
The Ultrium 2 tape device runs about 100-150MB /min. The device should be able to backup at a much faster rate.
I have changed the Scsi card to a adaptec 39160. But same result.
Any clues what to do?
Thanks,
Niklas Kinell

Re: Problem with slow Ultrium 2
The vast majority of performance issues with LTO drives turn out to be system related. We have a good performance trouble shooting guide at the following link.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg50460&locale=en_US
This makes use of dedicated performance tools and features in LTT that allow you to isolate your performance bottlenecks.
Feel free to post your findings here if you need further help
Cheers,

Re: Problem with slow Ultrium 2
Which backup software are u using, and are you performaning a mailbox backup to?
Is your scsi card a dedicated card for your streamer? Is your scsi card on a fixed speed
and so on?

Re: Problem with slow Ultrium 2
we are using Veritas Backup Exec8.6, do dont perform any mailbox backups.
We have a dedicated scsi card (adaptect 39160) for the Ultrium2 device.
Im not sure about the fixed speed on the scsi card...how can i check that?

Re: Problem with slow Ultrium 2
Reboot your server
In the boot sequence (go into the adapter bios) beware what you change

Re: Problem with slow Ultrium 2
Use the LTT tool to pull a support ticket for the tape drive and look in the "Device Analysis" section. If the HBA has negotiated for anything under the minimum recommended speed a warning will print there. If it says "no problems found" then your HBA has negotiated for an speed that will not limit the data transfer.
