Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi,

I bought an internal dat-drive http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/dat8cassette2040/index.html My problem now is, that I need at least one catridge to work withe the drive but I can not find any reseller in germany.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

I would be very suprised if there are no resellers in Germany that sell DDS4 media!

For example, amazon.de sells FUJI dds4 cartridges.

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi Yann,

can't imagine that this can be a problem ...
First, you can use any DDS-Tape from DDS-1 to DDS-4 (from your HP link):
'Backward read/write with DDS-1, DDS-2, and DDS-3 media'

You can find DDS-tapes at:
http://195.2.184.247/webshop/ (MCL - under storage - Medien)
also:
www.inmac.de - Tel. 06134-288700 (Germany)
for ex.
HP DDS-4 8.40 ├в ┬м Best.nr. (B)ME8438
also
DDS-3 Best.nr. (B)ME7062

Only some examples in a short time ...

Just a word of caution on using non-native tapes in your DDS4 drive. The older format tapes are more abrasive, and will accelerate head wear. If you use too much non-native tapes, you will not be able to read/write on native tapes.

Thus, I'd recommending using only DDS4 tapes in this case, except for an occasional restore from older media (if necessary).

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi all!

I'm sorry. Of cause i know, where to buy the tapes. What I am looking for is a reseller for the changer magazines that hold the dds tapes for beeing changes inside the autoloader. Unfortunately I havent found anything about that on the quoted site.

Hope you can help here.

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi Yann,

Another word of caution!!!!
Your DDS1 catridges are not going to work completely with your DDS4 drives. DDS1 tapes can be read using DDS4 drives, but not written to...

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

The magazine is part number C1571A.

You should be able locate HP parts resellers in Germany on the following web page:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/ContactHp?h_lang=de&h_cc=de&h_product=na

Sorry, I can't read german to interpret the website any further :-)

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi Yann,

have you got one magazine with your drive?

Do you know the resellers MCL and Systrade?
Maybe you have to ask there per phone.

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Hi again!

Is C1571A really the magzine I'm looking for?
I thought the autoloader beeing a 8-times changer but the C1571A is only a 6-times one.

Re: Problems to buy tape catridge

Yann,

Sorry, my mistake. I'm used to the pre-merger HP DDS autoloaders. You have the compaq autoloader. let me look up the proper part number.

Sorry again.
