If you're attaching the tape device to the raid controller, don't. Use a SCSI card. In my experience, the raid controller won't recognise the tape device.

thanks vincent but raid controller recognize tape device as c7438a but i think must be attached in different controller not togheter hard disk in the same controller.

Re: RHEL 3 don't see the device tape hp storageworks dat 72 hot plug

You miss my point - it won't work connected to the raid controller.

Search this forum for others who have attempted it - as I recall, none could ever get it to work.

...the raid controller is made to handle disks, not tapes.

Re: RHEL 3 don't see the device tape hp storageworks dat 72 hot plug

Vince,

Apparently this hot-plug tape drive is an exception from a rule:
http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/ISS/Detail/16-0015-0059.html

'Compatible Controllers & Host Bus Adapters:

The HP ProLiant DL380 G4 has a suitable embedded SCSI channel for use with External and Hot-Plug tape drives only.'

Rgds.
