Redhat linux 7.2 and HP surestore dat40 tape drive

Did anyone have success getting HP surestore dat40 to work with redhat 7.2?

We used to get it working witn RH 6.2 but with 7.2, it gets mounted as /dev/sgi rather than /dev/st0.

Thanks in advance

Re: Redhat linux 7.2 and HP surestore dat40 tape drive

Hello Prasad,

I have a RH7.2 install and an internal DAT40 drive in it connected to a AHA2940U2W controller. The drive shows up under /dev/st0 and works nicely with TapeWare.

My firmware is C908 (which can be obtained from www.hp.com) and my switch settings on the beast are default (all switches to 'on' except switch number 3)

Did you do a fresh install of 7.2 or did you do the upgrade shuffle ?

Also, did you check in the kernel if all settings for SCSI tape are correct ? (although by default this should be ok)

greets,

Eric.

Thanks a lot Eric! Knowing that dat40 works with RH 7.2 helped! Armed with the knowledge that they work together, I asked one of our staff to go thru the linux-2.4 scsi howto at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/SCSI-2.4-HOWTO/index.html
and he came back with a smile.

cheers
