SCSI Tape Alerts

How would I invoke or simulate tapealerts for testing purposes? Are there any tools available that may be of help. This is to make sure that the tapealert function actually works.

I'm not aware of any tools for injecting tape alerts. The brute force way of doing it would be to intercept the driver or emulate the firmware (something most mortals will have a hard time doing).

Depending on the device, a few of the more obvious tape alerts can be generated (e.g. a door open event on a library) on demand. Others like a cleaning request or a hard error are a bit more difficult.

Wish I had an easy answer, but I don't.
