SDLT 320 density override

Can anyone tell me how to set up a HP SDLT 160/320 to write tapes that are readable by a SDLT 110/220? I have installed HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools but I can't see anything useful.

Thanks in advance

Re: SDLT 320 density override

Perhaps the easiest is to initialize the tape (write something to the tape) in a SDLT 110/220 drive first. Then the SDLT 160/320 drive will detect the media as a SDLT 110/220.

Re: SDLT 320 density override

You havn't mentioned which OS you're using, so I'll assume you're using what we are, which is Tru64 5.1B.

You will have several tape devices that you can use. /dev/ntape/tape0_d?. There are only four that are different, they are:

/dev/ntape/tape0_d0 - SDLT220
/dev/ntape/tape0_d1 - SDLT320
/dev/ntape/tape0_d2 - SDLT160
/dev/ntape/tape0_d3 - SDLT110

SDLT110/160 are not using compression, SDLT220/320 are.

This also assumes that your ddr.dbase has the appropriate entries for the SDLT320. grep for SDLT320 in /etc/ddr.dbase; you should get some results.
