SDLT Media Compatibility

Hello, everybody.
Just a question:
Can I use a cartridge formatted with a DLT 8000 drive in a SuperDLT drive?
Have some you done this before?
Thanks.

Re: SDLT Media Compatibility

According to the specifications at:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11840_div/11840_div.html

the SDLT has 'Backward-read compatibility with DLT Type IV tape cartridges used with DLT1, DLT VS80, DLT 40, DLT 70, and DLT 80 tape drives'.

Re: SDLT Media Compatibility

Thanks Uwe, just another question:

Can I replace a DLT1 drive in a SSL1016 autoloader for a SDLT drive? If so, what I should do?

Re: SDLT Media Compatibility

Lumar,

You say you have a DLT1 in a SSL1016 and you want to replace it with SDLT?

The only drives listed as supported in a SSL1016 are SDLT 160/320.

Here is a spec sheet for it:

Re: SDLT Media Compatibility

Jim, that's correct, by now.
HP recently stopped to sale DLT1 drives in SSL1016 autoloader. We sold that solution to a customer a few months ago. Now when I need to answer a requirement from them, I find that HP only shows Ultrium and SDLT on those autoloader.

Re: SDLT Media Compatibility

SDLT220 and SDLT320 can (should be able to) read DLTtape IV carts written in any of the four formats it was used for: DLT 4000, DLT 7000, DLT 8000, and DLT VS80.
