SSL1016 "Unknown Tape"

I have 2 HP Storageworks SSL1016 Ultrium 460 Autoloaders on Novell (5.1) servers running ArcServe 7. I have a new tape (Fuji Ultrium 1) that comes up in ArcServe as "Unknown Tape". When I try to format it or erase it, ArcServe doesn't offer that tape to choose from. I tried it on the other Novell server with the same autoloader and got the same result. Thinking it may just be a bad tape, I put it in a Windows 2003 server running Backup Exec. It formatted just fine. Has anyone else run into this and found a solution?
