Second e1200-160 (or 320 ) Fibre Channel Interface Card

Urgent , does anyone have an idea how to add a second e1200 fc card in an msl6030 with 2 drives ?
As far as i know you cannot do it !!!

Re: Second e1200-160 (or 320 ) Fibre Channel Interface Card

You are right.

You can install a second NSR in a MSL6060, because you have 2 "floors".

Hope this helps!

Re: Second e1200-160 (or 320 ) Fibre Channel Interface Card

Up ican definitely install a second e1200-160 into the MSL6030. It has 3 i/o slots, 1 for the Robotic Controller and 2 for other options, mainly the e1200-160.

You would then connect the robotic controller to one drive, and that drive to the first nsr. Then the second drive to the second nsr.

You especially want to do this if you will be pussing the limits on the LTO drives. If you have LTO-3, it might be necessary to keep both drives going at the sme time consistantly.

Re: Second e1200-160 (or 320 ) Fibre Channel Interface Card

Steven, do you know about any documentation about a second NSR in a HP MSL? I can't found some, at least at the HP site.
But perhaps on others ;-)
I know the same box in a different color can have different configurations ;-)

Hope this helps!

Steven , i'm also interested in seeing such a documentation from HP.
In such a case how is the cable connections?
What about the robotic cooperation with the second drive.

Re: Second e1200-160 (or 320 ) Fibre Channel Interface Card

The library controller will be connected to one E1200 only, together with the first tape drive. Of course, any system that needs to talk to it, must have access to that E1200.

Sorry Uwe, but i don't understand it. Will the second drive be able to cooperate with the robotic as the first one ?

Yes. The software handles communications between the drives/robot. Software being enterprise level Backup solution. Your Cell Manager or Master Server or whatever term your backup software uses for its main/central backup server can see ALL drives. Just because they are on different bus's does not mean the drive can't use the robot. So, when a server needsto access the second tape drive, it communicates it's needs to the 'master' server and the master server handles tape movement and such, then the server can write directly over the SAn to tape (assuming this is your setup).

If you just have stand alone servers with one talking to one NSR and the other talking to the 2nd NSR, you may run into issues, but then again, you should be using the library in a more enterprise level configuration if you have the need to have multiple backup servers.

BTW, will have to look for docs. I do not know where they are off hand.
