StorageWorks 1/8 G2 and Ultra160

Hi

We have a couple of rp5470's in a far away place currently backing up via LTO1 in a 5300 tape array, which is hooked up to one of the Ultra160 ports on the server. The other port is also in use.

We're looking for a better unmanned backup solution (we're talking small data) so the 1/8 G2 is planned to replace it. We're limited in cabinet space so 1U footprint is good!

Looking at the installation manual it suggests to use a U320 interface for performance. However, given that all-out performance of the unit isn't our main goal (probably a few tens of gigabytes backup per night), how much of a detrimental effect would it have to hang this off the back of the 5300 and indeed is it compatible?

If it's a bad idea, is there a U320 HBA that's compatible with the rp5470? I'm not having much luck with partsurfer and quickspecs don't seem to be forthcoming for the 5470.

I don't like to guess with SCSI's, there's so many low voltage, high voltage, single ended, differential, high density, very high density etc!

Thanks.

The 1/8G2 can have a LTO-2, 3 or 4 drive and is supported for Ultra160 scsi (at least the LTO-2), see
