Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

I have a problem. This morning after I put my cartridge, it stuck inside and 4 LEDs on right side blinking. Tried to press unload then 1 Led blink for a minute and heard a grind sound then back to 4 LEDS blinking again. Anyone can help me ?
I know there is a way to unload tape manually but can not find how.

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

Arnold,

Have you called HP on this, because if a tape gets stuck in a tape drive, do not try attempt to remove it. Removing jambed tapes will bend the S-pin. Speak with Hp and try sending unit to them fixed.

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

Hello:

Please go to www.hp.com and search for the Document Number :LPG50246 titled "HP DLT Tape - How to Remove A Stuck Tape in a DLT40, DLT70, or DLT80 ".

The document has a step by step description to unload/remove the stuck tape manually.
Hope this helps.

Thanks

the 005E code in the third Byte is reporting the cause of the error, and this is indicating: 0050-005F Cartridge Load Errors Check Cartridge/Leaders
The 0002 is: bit 01 â Drive is in the Process of Loading a tape but has not entered the calibration phase of the load

This mean that probably you have a Dropped leader situation.

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

how do i know whether it is a dropped leader or not without opening the cover ?
Can I see through the mouth of the drive after I take out the tape manually ?

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

Yes you can see, you should have the head of the leader hooked up, and ready to engage in the tape head.

You can also heard a caracteristic sound every minuts, the leader is rewinding, and the peace of plactic running inside the drive cause this sound

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

thanks.. I have reseated the leader and today will test it online.
Just one more question.. I found the solenoid arm is still hanging/blocking the cartridge to go in even when cartridge hook in front is in unload position. Do you know how to fix it ?

Re: Stuck cartridge on HP DLT 40/80 GB

just update for me. thanks a lot all for your help. Manage to reseated the leader then put the drive back in, turn on and the solenoid arm reset by itself.
Now my backup device running perfectly again. THanks a million.
