SureStore 2/20 DLT tape drive question

I have a problem with my 2/20 DLT tape drive. The "button" on the front of the unit that allows you access to the mail slot is not functioning. I have placed a hardware call to get the problem corrected. In the meantime, we cannot gain acces to the mal slot to load/unload tapes for offsite storage. I have tried to use "uma" with the doorlock option, but it does not seem to deliver the resired results (uma -ioctl /dev/rmt/1 doorlock 0"). It returns a message that the door was unlocked, but it does not allow access to the mail slot. What am I doing wrong? Can somebody suggest another solution until the unit is replaced/fixed? We need to load/unload tapes on a daily basis.

Thanks

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. The unit is broken. You might want to NOT continue futzing with it.

I know that this is obvious but it looks like your stuck going through the main door to replace tapes for the time being.

Re: SureStore 2/20 DLT tape drive question

I found a work around. The uma command doesn't do what I originally thought. It LOCKS the entire library prventing any access form the "control buttons". The "MAIL" button is a shortcut to gainging access to the library. I found another path that provides the desired results. I just have to push a few more buttons. Luckily I don't have to use the third button from the left for any of the other procedures.

Hi.
You can try to test by using web console.

Jim,

Not sure what you are referring to. Test what? When I issued the uma command it prevented me fram any access via the "control buttons". Once I "played around" a little more I found I was able to open the door using another series of button commands.
