TL891 not autoloading tapes

We have a TL891 mini library system that is not auto loading tapes.
We have BackupExec 8.5 running a job from SAP I/3 4.6. We have a scheduled job running. If the tape is put into a slot that was previously used, the tape loads OK. If we put the tape into a slot that BackupExec previously thought was empty, the tape does not auto load. It is as if when the door is closed, the device does taking inventory', but the inventory is ignored.
Any help would be appreciated.
