Tape Idle on Tape Library

Hi, does anyone have this problem? We just replace a new tape drive on our SureStoreE Tape Library drive. The installed went successfully with the the statue "Library Status Ready"

When we try to schedule a backup job to that particular tape drive#3, the job ran, and load the tape to drive#3 and then stay there. Now I saw the status on the LED said IDLE??

Why????

Please help cause this causing all the back to failed

Re: Tape Idle on Tape Library

Depending on the type of library you have it's possible that the ISV software needs reconfigured to recognize the new drive.

If the application is matching the drive by a serial number or world wide name and the library didn't set a value for the drive that matches the old drive then the ISV application won't recognize the new drive.

Re: Tape Idle on Tape Library

Hi
after change the tape drive you must upgrade the firmware version matching to existing firmware version. Then soft reboot the tape library.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Tape Idle on Tape Library

Data Protector probably needs to be told about the new serial number and WWN. Go to your Devices->Library->drive and update the Serial Number and WWN (if you use the WWN).

Click on the [reload] button

That should take care of it for you.

See the attached screen shot for the location in the manager GUI

Rob.
IF you do it more than twice, write a script.

Re: Tape Idle on Tape Library

Thanks Eveyone!

Here is how i resolved my problem. Even though the Library Status is Ready.
1) I have to shutdown the host and the tape library completely,
2) and then power up the tape library and ensure the status is ready and the LED is green before powering up the host
3) Once i have completely power up the host , i ran the ioscan -funC tape to make sure the host detect the drives.
Note: Guess what at this point I notice all the H/W path changed.
4) Then I use DP to reconfigure all my Drive again, such as removed and add it back again.

Bingo

This time, it works like a CHAMP!!!
