Re: Tape Leader
Dan,
if the drive is still under HP warranty simpy call HP and they will replace it. If not, you can:
- contact drive's vendor (Quantum) if they have leaders for sale;
- contact HP for trade drive replacement;
- take good leader from another drive.
Even HP engineers in most cases are not allowed to replace leaders, but sending drives to Quantum

Re: Tape Leader
Hello,
Whenever something goes wrong in a tape drive, being whatever is under this Earth (DDS, DLT, Ultrium, SDLT etc.), the whole drive needs to be replaced. That is what is specified by HP.
HTH,
Vince

Re: Tape Leader
Do not do anything to void your service contract or to conflict with HP policy.
But.....in my experience it is FAR more common for that little metallic leader piece to come un-hooked from the mechanism than it is to actually break the piece. I've opened a number of drives (out of warranty) and that leader is quite easy to hook back onto the driving mechanism.
