Tape backup issue
Problem: Unable to get system to recognise and use both tape drives in a pool arrangment to backup the data off the server.
Equipment and software involved:
Server: HP ProLiant DL380 G7 - Drive expasion option installed w/ 3x 146Gb drives in RAID 5 for boot/OS and 12x 600Gb in RAID 5 for data. It has a HP Expansion card in it for the drive option (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3923501&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=3923500&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4024), it has a LSI SAS 9212-4i4e controller for the external tape backup system.
Tape Backup System: HP 1U SAS Rack-mount Tape Drive Backup (AE459B)

The tape unit is a Quantum relabeled system. We have 2 - Ultrium LTO 5 tape drives in it.
These are Quantum TC-L52AN (http://www.quantum.com/Products/TapeDrives/LTOUltrium/LTO-5/Index.aspx}
Server OS: Windows Server 2008 Standard R2
Backup Software: Symantec Backup Exec for Windows 12.5 w/ tape pooling option.
What I've done:
Installed all hardware, installed and updated OS, racked equipment and installed and updated BEW. It recognised it had ONE (1) tape drive when it should see 2 drives. If I disconnect the recognised drive it then sees the other drive. I then reconnected both drives and while it shows both drives if I run a backup it only is able to address and utilize one drive. It says the other drives is offline and unavailable.
We need this to utilize both drives, it is why we got the pooling option on the backup software.
If I have failed to provide any needed info please feel free to ask me what you need to know. I really need to get this resolved.
