Tape drives showing no_hw
I have an EML E series Library not sensing 4 tape drives out of the 12 drives. From the server end, the tape drives are showing as no_hw. This server is zoned to see the tape drives in the Library. The Library has three interface cards which is zoned & is attached to the cell server. From the cell server all the tape drives are showing as claimed.
The multipath option is selected in Data Protector & these backups run on SAN.
Please find below the ioscan output showing the 4 tape drives as no_hw
# ioscan -funC tape

Re: Tape drives showing no_hw
I assume that you were working fine and suddenly you are not seeing 4 drives.
Any of these could be the culprit:
1) Rezoning of the configuration not including the link to the 4 drives.
2) FC cable connecting the drives faulty.
3) SFPs connecting the drives faulty.
4) 4 tape drives faulty (highly unlikely).
I would start by replacing the FC cable, then by replacing the SFP.
HTH,
Vince

Re: Tape drives showing no_hw
This issue came up only after the interfaces were changed on the library. Only some drives show up as no_hw.

Re: Tape drives showing no_hw
I would start with commandview tl and check the library for issues, if nothing found, check the switch.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Tape drives showing no_hw
The issue is only on some of the servers which are zoned to see the tape drives.

Re: Tape drives showing no_hw
I recollect reading somewhere in the forum that fc cleanup needs to be done when the server is not able to detect the drives. Is there any such command?
