Tape error or device error?

this command:
tar -cf /dev/rmt/0m /tmp/info.log
and this writed:
tar: cannot open /dev/rmt/0m

why?

this error message its mean that tape failed or my dds-device failed??

"ioscan -Ftape" output:
10/12/5.0.0 tape HP HP35480A

It looks like DDS1 tape drive. Before doing tar please make sure that you've inserted DDS1 tape into the drive and it's not doing anything (not flashing its leds). Also please check with 'ioscan -fnCtape' that there's device file for this tape driver and you're using correct device file

and... i put into drive the tape, the leds lighting and the drive put out the tape... i traing again and the tape stay in...

uh! HP35480A drive DDS1? my tape is dds2... :/

No way. DDS2 tapes will not work within DDS1 drives. You need DDS1 tapes. Check with LTT http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html
