Tape to Tape Copies

We need to duplicate DLT IV 70gb tapes. These tapes have backups on them from Omniback, and we are using an LMC jukebox with 10 drives. Omniback does have a tape to tape copy feature, but it takes over 3 hours per tape. That's way too long. If it fails, that is a lot of time lost. There is a company that wil duplicate them at around $50/tape. At a minimum of two tapes per day, that is entirely too much. Is there a piece of equipment out there that can duplicate these tapes quickly? Suggestions?

Re: Tape to Tape Copies

The DLT 70 only has a transfer rate of 5MB/s which translates out to 18GB/hr. That would give you about 3hr 53 min of backup time for a completely full tape. There's simply no way to make the hardware go faster than that.
What are the chances...

That's bad news for me. But, it's good to know why it is so slow. Thanks Joshua.
