Ultrium 1/8 960 Tape changer backup schedule
Hi:
I work for a small company who has just purchased one of these devices. Thing is - they want to use a father/son backup method. 4 incrementals, Monday to Thursday then a full backup on Friday, with a 4 week rotation. Fine thinks I as I have 8 tapes. Thing is, this device has no barcode reader. Is is possible to schedule the backups as above? Does anyone do this and if so can you let me know your policy/schedule settings?
Many thanks

Re: Ultrium 1/8 960 Tape changer backup schedule
Most of the backup softwares support incremental/differential backups, it it's more up to your budget :)
But if you want to use NTbackup, it will be almost imposible :D.
So actually what is the type or OS you are using or plan to use?

Re: Ultrium 1/8 960 Tape changer backup schedule
If it was an HP 1/8 autoloader is should have come with an application called Data Protector Express, Single Server Edition.
While this edition of Data Protector Express doesn't automatically include GFS rotation, you should be able to create a custom rotation schedule that does what you want.
I have attached a screen shot of the scheduling module showing an eight-tape rotation, 4 daily & 4 weekly.
