Ultrium 1760 on Intel Modular Server MFSYS25

Hello,

We have Symantec BackupExec 12.5 installed on Intel Modular Server MFSYS25. The operating system is Windows Server 2003 64-bit. The tape drive that we use for backup is "HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1760" and it is connected via SAS port. The tape drives have Symantec Drivers installed. We have all the latest patches and service packs installed for Symantec BackupExec.

We are intermittently getting error while taking backup using Symantec BackupExec. The OS generates Event ID 11 and backup fails. The error source is "LSI_SAS" and the description says "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort0".

Does anybody know of this error? Is there any known issue with this?

It's hard to say too much from an Event ID 11 from LSI_SAS as that is the event ID that it throws for every error and the real data is in the binary additional data.

There has however been an issue identified that occurs with some of the LSI SAS controllers where an recovered error counter is cumulative over time and eventually a hard error will occur when a limit is reached. A new drive firmware version that resolves that issue will be available very soon, U52D/012.890.

Until that release is available if this is an external drive you could reset the drive periodically when it's idle and that will force it to reinitialize and the counter will be cleared.

I've heard that the U52D firmware should be available on hp.com next week.

As you said, the new firmware was made public by HP. I tried upgrading the firmware, but the issue still comes.

Does anybody know of this error or its solution??

Can you post the binary details from the event in word format? LSI puts more information into the binary data and there may be something there that would help.
