Ultrium 1840 drive with LTO-2 cartridges

Hi Guys,

The ultrium 1840 tape drive uses LTO-4 recording technology.

Can I use LTO-2 cartridges with the drive? If I use that, will it give me the same results as the LTO-4 cartridges ?

Thanks in advance

You can insert Ultrium-2 cartridges but they will have a capacity of 200 GB and be READ ONLY, you cannot write in them.

Check:

Thanks,

But in the quickspec it mentions a Data transfer rate of 71.2 MB/s with LTO 2 media (compressed).

Please clarify.

Thanks.

Native Data transfer rate 35.6 MB/s with LTO 2 media

Data transfer rate, compressed 71.2 MB/s with LTO 2 media

Yes, but that's READING ONLY

If you check next page, it says

Rewriteable Media Compatibility

Read
LTO Ultrium 4
LTO Ultrium 3
LTO Ultrium 2

Write
LTO Ultrium 4
LTO Ultrium 3 [unencrypted]
