Ultrium 215 compression
We have an HP Surestore Ultrium 215, Tape cartridge C791A 200GB, Windows nt 4.0 sp 6.0, Backup Exec v.8.0 rev. 3314.
Compression mode (Hardware or software) don't work, I can backup max. 84GB in one tape. Have you a solution
Thank's

Re: Ultrium 215 compression
The Ultrium 215 compression is always on, unless the host or bu software explicitly turns it off. Try running the HP Library & Tape Tools compression test and check for a compression ratio of 2:1 or higher. If you can, then it's not the drive. Look at how fast you are sending data to the drive, or try new tapes...

Re: Ultrium 215 compression
the problem may be due to poor performance, I the ultrium is not working in streaming mode, you can waste space on the tape.
you can run PAT (performance assessment tools http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNum=C7200RA&prodName=hp+surestore+tape+library+model+2%2F20&locale=en_US&taskId=8418&taskName=download+drivers+%26+software&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=34115&prodSeriesName=hp+surestore+tape+library+model+2%2F20#Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 ) that will test your system performances
here is also a good doc for compression issue http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg50244&locale=en_US&docId=99541
also remember to disable software compression using the hardware one
bye
