Ultrium 230e - Apparent Media Failure

The drive has rejected a tape on the basis that 'it has an error'. However, we have tried substituting the tape with a number of others and all are ejected after a short pause. The 'Ready' LED is solid green before the tape is entered, stays green immediately afterwards then flashes and ejects. The LED then returns to solid green. None of the other LEDs register any abnormal activity.

The tapes are all Hewlett Packard, specifically HP ultrium 200GB* data cartridge C7971A. We had been using them without any problems for about three months previously, working on a daily rotation basis.

Phil,

Have you tried cleaning the drive? Even though no other lights are on this might solve the problem.

Yes, but to no avail.
