You cannot perform a firmware update from sles. Can't you connect it to a strange OS like windows and perform the update here with Library and tape tools

Re: Ultrium 460 internal tape drive firmware
If it helps; here are the steps for flashing firmware in windows:
1. Stop your back up software's services in the Windows service list
a. Click on â Startâ
b. Select â Runâ
c. Enter: services.msc
d. For all of your back up software services:
i. Right click
ii. Select 'Stop'
e. Also ensure the â Removable Storage Managerâ service is stopped
2. Start LTT
3. Choose Hardware Scan and NT Miniport
4. Click Continue
5. LTT will scan for devices, and you should see your drive on the â By Productâ tab
6. Select the drive (a short scan will commence)
7. Click 'File'
8. Select 'get files from web' (note: if no internet access, proxy settings, or a firewall are in place this step may be inhibited)
9. Select your drive with newest firmware revision date
10. Click 'Download'
11. When download of files is complete, close the 'Get Files From Web' window
12. You should see the by product tab again, where your drive is listed
13. Select the drive (a short scan will commence)
14. Select the 'firmware' button at the top of the screen
15. Put a checkmark in the box beside the LTO drive
16. You should see a 'current rev', 'new rev' and 'status: ready to start'
17. Start firmware update and read all warnings associated with this test

Re: Ultrium 460 internal tape drive firmware
Contact tech support in your area to have a tape sent to you, if connecting to a windows box is going to be difficult.
FUP tapes are tapes written with the firmware for the drive, when you put it in the drive it will automatically flash the drive witht he new revision. FUP tapes can not be reformatted and used as normal tapes, once they are used as a FUP tape they will always be a FUP tape.
