Ultrium 960 LTO 3

I have the Utrium 960 attached to a Smart Array 642 Controller installed on a Proliant DL380. I set the SCSI ID to 3 and on boot, the BIOS reflects this. However, when I get into W2k3 Server, the drive doesn't show up in Device Manager as a Media Changer. Only as a Tape Drive. Also, Device Manager tells me that the SCSI ID is 4 when I've physically set it on the device to 3.

Therefore, when I get into my backup program, only the drive is seen the Libray is not.

I've tried almost all available SCSI ID's as well.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

John:

You need to get yourself a standard SCSI HBA. The Smart Array does not support Libraries, nor does it fully support LTO3 drives.

If you continue to use the Smart Array, you will realize quiclly that 1. you can not move tapes around easily and 2. the performance sucks really bad.

Your DL380 SHould have huild in SCSI to use for the tape library. If you do not worry the performance.
