Re: Ultrium Cartridge
Ultrium catridges are infact good ones. Which make are you using? I am using HP Ultrium1 and Ultrium2 catridges. They are lasting very long.
As per HP life period of Ultrium is 30 years archival storage.
make sure that you are maintaining the environmental requirements specified by hp.

Re: Ultrium Cartridge
We've had very good luck with Ultrium tapes. The only one of hundreds that failed was dropped and bounced down a few flights of stairs.

Re: Ultrium Cartridge
Which version are you using?
Are latest patches installed?
Are your drives in a Tape Library?
Are your drives/Tape library connected via SCSI or FC?
In this case, which firmware are using switches-FC cards-SCSItoFCrouter?
Are switches zoned?
Which server(s) are managing your tape library?
And so on....
can you give us some more details?
thank you

Re: Ultrium Cartridge
I assume you use DataProtector/OmniBack and, the media is marked as poor in the media database.
DP always mark a media as bad if there is any problem with read/write to/from the media, regardless of the reason for the problem (media, drive, SCSI, FC etc.). DP ann simply not distinguish between the different type of problems. In most cases there is no problem with the media itself but tha data may be corrupted.
If DP 5.1 you can recycle the media and then do a omnimm -reset_poor_media
