Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

Guys,

I could not get the instruction from any manual of how to upgrading drives' firmware of a MSL5060, using Remote Management Interface, I do know how to upgrade library's firmware using RMI, is it a similar procedure? By the way, no SCSI connection from a windows server, so I could not use LTT.

regards

Stephen

Re: Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

There are many ways to upgrade the firmware of an MSL5000 and MSL6000 library (LTT, web interface, ftp, serial).

What version do you have?

What is the OS of the connected servers?

LTT is available for many different operating systems.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

Torsten,

I don't think I could upgrade the firmware using LTT, if SCSI connection from OS to library was necessary. So Web Interface & ftp should be a better choice for me. If so, I should upload firmware to the interface by ftp to the dir /upload and complete the flashing, right? I could not get a manual about such upgrade. BTW, how to complete the upgrade procedure with serial?

Torten,

BTW, I posted this thread because some one said the issue I raised in http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/General/Could-not-discover-drives-in-Storage-Router-in-MSL5060/td-p/5585619 could be fixed by upgrade drives' firmware from present E30W to E38W.

Re: Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

For both methods (web/ftp or serial) you need another format of the firmware file:

NextGen_520.bin

You can upload the file via ftp and use the web interface to start the update

or

you get the serial tool

MSLUTIL

from web, connect your PC to the library controller (special cable needed!) and send the file into the box.

Both downloads are available in HP business support center.

Hope this helps!

Re: Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

Torsten,

I upgraded library firmware a few days ago, but the drives' firmware remained, so, maybe it should be upgraded separately, and drives' firmware from LTT bundle was LTT_Ultrium_1-SCSI_E38W_OEM20.frm. Could you confirm this? Furthermore, there was no MSLUtil for Win7, so I could not do the job with my own laptop.

Re: Upgrading drives' firmware of MSL5060 using RMI

I already did this with win7, you can use the older version, it doesn't make a difference. The serial tool is for the library only, not for the drives.

Hope this helps!
