VS 40/80 and DLT 35/70 Compatibility
Cannot use DLT IV tapes formatted on a DLT 35/70 tape drive. They get rejected. Tried degaussing the tapes and still the VS 40/80 spits them out. No problem with new tapes. New tapes work okay in the VS 40/80 over and over again. Have the latest firmware and drive. Using standard backup software that comes with Windows 2000. Is there a way to make these tapes usable for the VS 40/80?

Re: VS 40/80 and DLT 35/70 Compatibility
Hello,
Read this document:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg70014
Degaussing machines for vs80s are different than those for DLT35/70. You require a higher degree of coercivity rating to degauss them for use in DLT1 (which is the samne as vs80) drives.
HTH,
Vince

Re: VS 40/80 and DLT 35/70 Compatibility
The article you referred me to makes sense. I suspected that the magnetic field used to degauss the tapes was not adequate to do the job. Will ask the company that degaussesd our tapes for more specific technical information about their degausser. Thanks!!!
