Will 1/8 g2 ultrium 3000 autoloader read lto-2 tapes

My ultrium 448 autoloader just died. I'm thinking to get the newest ultrium 3000 but not sure if still can read my old tapes. If it doesn't read, what are my options? Thanks.

Typically, LTO is backward compatible one version for read and write and backward compatible two versions for read. From the Quickspecs (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13572_div/13572_div.html):

"The Ultrium 3000 provides investment protection with full read and write backward support with LTO-4 media, and the ability to read LTO-3 cartridge."

Options... get an LTO-2, LTO-3, or LTO-4 drive. I'd imagine LTO-2 drives aren't very expensive now. Maybe go ahead with the purchase of the LTO-5, get an LTO-2 also, and then do a copy of the data on the LTO-2 drive to an LTO-5 tape.
