Yet another tape capacity question - Surestore DAT24i

Hello, after reading some forums and googling around, i have not found a solution to my problem. What must i do to backup 24Gb using Surestore 24i and DD3 C5708A, i have tryed Tapeware and NTBackup and in both cases i only get 12Gb. The OS is Win2003 Server, with 2 non compressed NTFS partitions.
TIA,

Bruno

Hi,

have you enable the hardware compression in NT backup before starting the backup.

you can enable that from the options

The drive will do self compression.
A 24 GB tape is a 12 native and 24 compressed data. A cartridge will hardly ever fit the full 24 compressed data. Most likely you will get 22 GB compressed data.
I would expect to see you get 12GB non-compressed data on the tape. So this appears to be at capacity for that tape.

You want to ensure that in your Back up software that software compression is not enabled. In fact compression should be turned off all together because the drive will compress the data on it's own. In Back up exec this option is "hardware compression if available, otherwise none".
