backup device: strange trouble!
Hi guys
I have Tape Sure Store 2/20 model. Backup software is DP 5.1
Yesterday, I replaced one of two broken drive.
just following these step:
1. Shutdown the tape library.
2. Unplug the broken drive
3. Plug the new one.
4. Upgrade the drive firmware to the lastes version (1.60)
5. Reboot the lib.
Now I have one trouble: After replace, the lib status is OK. Try to check inventory, load, unload, move tape everythink is OK but when I perform a backup or restore session.
It hangs up!
In the status area, DP caculate the size of the disk, stating Media agent then load tape then stating disk agen and it hangs. I check the lib's led but no flashing!
It realy hangs.
I have to unload the tape manually and then the tape was mark in *POOR* status.
I need your helps
What can i do now? Do I have to configure any thing to fix this problem?
Oh..my boss allway ask me why? Very tired.
Any help Appreciated
Jimkery

Re: backup device: strange trouble!
Have you checked the scsi address of the replacement tape drive? Sounds like DP can communicate with the robotics but not the drive itself.
You didn't say what type of system you are using, In HP-UX do an ioscan -fnC tape
for windows look in the device manager and see what tape devices you have.

Re: backup device: strange trouble!
I assume you are dealing with Windows.
In some cases this OS considers as new devices every piece of hardware that has been updated with new firmware.
Open "Device manager", select one at a time robot and drives, open "properties", write down the scsi path of the robotics and drives, delete the drives and the robot and perform an hardware scan. Your server should find a robot with drives (hopefully!)Double check if the SCSI paths are identical. They should be; If not, you have to edit DP devices and associate the newly created scsi path.
Check also the latest DP patches.
Good luck
Claudio
