backward compatibility ultrium-2 drive to ultrium-1

Hi,

I'm having ultrium-2 tape drive on hp-ux server and when backup I want to use my ultrium-2 device as ultrium-1 device so can I
change my default device file to be an ultrium-1 device file.
The reason for this because I had another
ultrium-1 in the other server.
I need to read or restore all data backup in ultrium-2 in my ultrium-1 tape drive
Can my ultrium-1 drive read or restore from ultrium-2 tape drive ?

Thanks

Yes, the ultrium 2 drive can write to ultrium 1 tapes, and those tapes can be read by your ultrium 1 drive. The key is to use ultrium 1 media.

I don't believe you need to change your device file. This is a bit different than DLT, where the same media is used in drives with different densities (e.g. DLT4K, DLT7K, DLT8K) and you would need to select the desired density.
The journey IS the reward.

Hi,

This is a backwards compability solution if you use Ultrium-1 cartridges

Here you find more info on Ultrium tapes
