We have HP Server with DDS2 drive which is standby server & another server with DDS4 deive online. Can DDS2 deive will be able to read from DDS4 tape which is backed up data from DDS4 drive.

that only works if you use a DDS2 tape in the DDS4 drive.

A good rule is that the HIGHER numbered drives can read the LOWER numbered tapes, but NOT the other way around.

A DDS4 drive can read DDS3, DDS2, DDS tapes. A DDS2 drive CANNOT read DDS3 or DDS4 tapes.

If you are going to frequently move your data from server to server, it is better to use DDS2 catridges in both the server, even though this is not a recomended practice. The performance/speed a DDS4 dat drive can give you is not attained while using a dds2 tape.
