crazy DAT 72

Hi,
I think my HP StorageWorks DAT72 - c7438a
is faulty
:-(

Software "Data Protector Express 3.10 sp3"
indicates a generic hardware error
code error 4040
"check the device and support"...

What do I do?

Switch the device and server off, check that all cables are seated properly, then switch everything back on.

If it doesn't work, get a proper drive.
(I don't trust a DAT drive further than I can throw it, and well... I've been told I throw like a girl... )
The problem with DAT is the narrow tape that stretches easily, especially as it runs at many times the originally intended speed, with sudden stops and reversals.
I'd much rather trust the old QIC-80 and Travan tapes I used at home during the 90s than a DAT drive.

hi,
you can run the L&TT drive assesment test on the drive to find out the excat issue is on the drive or not.
I dont think so its a hardware error .
It should be a issue with DPE.
Also try disable RSM.
