cyclic redundancy check error

Lately our DAT 6 autoloader has been failing on backups due to "cyclic redundancy check" almost all the time. It used to do it occasionally, but would work fine after the heads were cleaned. Now it fails even if it's just been cleaned, and today it's had difficulty recognizing tapes (sees formatted tapes in the backup set as "blank media"). Does anyone know how to correct or minimize this problem? Thanks.

Run diags , if tape drive fails , have tape drive replaced .
