dds3 tape drive problem on N class
tape drive. Seems that the tape drive is not
hot swap, that you still need to shutdown the
cpu to replace the tape drive.
The HP CEs that come out say I should not have
to power down the cpu, just hot swap out the
tape drive. The last time I did this the ioscan
would not see the tape drive until I powered off and on the cpu.
Just want some clarification if the drive should be hot swap or not.
Thanks

Re: dds3 tape drive problem on N class
original device, but I keep getting different
information on the swapping out.
One CE told me that they have replaced hundreds
of these tape drives without having to shutdown the system. I'm wondering if its
different on an L class server.

Re: dds3 tape drive problem on N class
I read the rp7400 product specs and DISKS, Power supplies and Fans are all listed as hot-plug or hot-swap devices.. no mention of the DDS and Cdrom having the same feature

Re: dds3 tape drive problem on N class
as per my understanding u need not shutdown the box. What might hv happened is that the device file is not created , for that u can force it by running insf -e command

Re: dds3 tape drive problem on N class
device file then 5 minutes later it was gone
from the ioscan. At that point I powered off/on the server and it saw the tape drive.

Re: dds3 tape drive problem on N class
Shouldn't be different on the N Class server...
You should be able to hotswap such DDS drives...
Just make sure that the SCSI bus they are attached to is quiescient at the time you perform the swap.
