errors with fbackup
we have sporadical errors during fbackup like this:
fbackup(3013): WRITE ERROR while writing data record, at media record 4479233
fbackup(3102): attempting to make this volume salvagable
fbackup(3103): rewrite this volume from the beginning?
fbackup(3004): writer aborting
fbackup(1002): Backup did not complete : Reader or Writer process exit
Does anyone know the reason for these errors? On another day, with another tape, everything is ok.
But this error is occuring too often -- such many tapes can not be defective, regarding they are all new.
Any hints will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kay.

Re: errors with fbackup
Write errors can be caused by a worn head, or worn media. Since you already tried different media, this wouldn't be the case. Try to clean the drive using a cleaning cartidge. If these errors do not clear, you may need to replace the drive.
Also, do not use tapes from different brands, as these have slightly different coercivity levels, which are no good for the drive's head.

Re: errors with fbackup
I tried to clean the tape but with no effect.
It seems to be the best to call HP hardware support.
Thank you!

Re: errors with fbackup
If they can't be read by another drive, check to see if they can still be read by this drive. If they can still be read, you may need to make copies of the tapes.
